Moccasin Creek State Park

Tree swallow, at Moccasin Creek State Park (photo by Georgia)

This state park is located at the head of Moccasin Creek Cove.

There are a number of campsites, some on the creek and some near the lake, as well as a boat launch and picnic areas with a playground. Docks are available for your boat, including overnight docking for campers. There are shower and laundry facilities, too.

Across the creek from the campground is the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery. Moccasin Creek is stocked weekly from the hatchery, but fishing in the campground is for young and old only (kids, and 65+).

Before buying the cottage this year, we camped here for several years in early May, when the rhododendrons were in bloom.

Across GA-197, there is a trail up to Hemlock Falls, a nice walk on a warm day, when you can take a dip in the pool at the falls.
